Poway Unified School district made the Newsweek top 1, 300 schools list with Westview High school posting an impressive 169 ranking.
The schools are ranked by calculating the number of advanced placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors. Any school with a ratio of 1.000 or higher is placed on the Newsweek list. Schools on the list are within the top 6 percent of all American high schools.
Rancho Bernardo was ranked at 597, Mt. Carmel High (Adam Lamberts high school) at 723 and Poway High at 864. That means every high school in the district ( except Abraxas, which is an alternative school) made the list.
A key factor in making the list is the number of students in AP ( advanced placement ) tests. Westview High School Principal Dawn Kastner estimates that 80 percent of all students take AP classes. The school also has a “block” schedule , four 90 minute classes during the week.

The area schools and the PUSD district have always been a impressive factor for sellers to lure buyers. Many buyers even couples with no children consider the area schools when searching for a home. Here is yet another great reason to live in the area.
Congratulations to Westview high school teachers, students and parents for making the grade.
